If we’re honest I think most of us would like to go through life with a giant “Do Not Disturb” sign on our front door.
That’s not to say that we don’t want guests or that we have no desire to be engaged in the world around us. The truth is, we just don’t want any unwelcome guests, events, or anything else that might rock our worlds.
As a believer I know that in a broken world, a world riddled with sin, one in need of a Savior, there is no such thing as a life free from disturbances. However, what I have found over the years, is that as inconvenient and painful as some of these disturbances are I always find myself somewhat wiser and refined on the other side.
These disturbances can draw us to our knees and leave our hearts crying out to God; they result in community as we reach a hand out for help or to encourage others; and more often than not, they shake us out of our spiritual complacency.
Psalm 91:14-16 tells us:
“Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him for he acknowledges my name. He will call on me, and i will answer him. I will be with him in trouble. I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”
If you find yourself in the midst of a disturbance, I pray that you find comfort in the One that holds you in the palm of His hands. May your rest in the knowledge that our great Redeemer loves you. I pray that He increases your trust and your faith during this time; be courageous and be strong knowing that our Good Father loves you and will not forsake you.
